The Jared Smith Shining Star Award

Jared was a much loved member of our school community from September 2019 to October 2021 when he sadly lost his battle with cancer. In partnership with his parents Andrew and Sonya and his big sister Sasha we decided to keep his memory alive at Ditton Infants by creating an annual prize named ‘Jared’s Shining Star Award’. Each July a member of our Year 2 cohort will be chosen by the Headteacher to receive the award. The winner will be a child who has shown the resilient and persevering qualities that Jared demonstrated throughout his short life. Part of the prize will be a bundle of children's story books as reading was one of Jared's favourite activities. A star has been chosen as the symbol for the award as Jared’s friends at school had a star named after him in his memory.
